Oral Surgery & Other Procedures

At Colorado West Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, we perform a variety of surgeries and procedures. As always, if you have any questions or would like more information, please call 970-245-2222.

Bone Grafting

Dental implants require a sufficient amount of bone to keep them in place. If the jaw bone is atrophied or too thin to support the implant, a bone graft may be performed. Bone grafts may use a section of bone from another area of your body or a special grafting material. The graft will require healing time before it creates new bone and can provide the stability needed for an implant.

Facial Trauma

Dr. Kelly and Dr. Reece are skilled in treating injuries to the face, including both the physical and emotional components required in your care. These injuries may include facial lacerations, intraoral lacerations, knocked-out teeth, fractured facial bones, or fractured jaws. They may affect soft tissue, bone, or dental structures. Treatment can consist of suturing, stabilizing, and more.

Jaw Surgery

Jaw surgery is often indicated in a patient with improper bite, malpositioned jaws, injury to the jaw, or birth defects. These conditions frequently cause difficulty in eating, speech issues, jaw pain, and breathing problems. Dr. Kelly and Dr. Reece use the latest technology and techniques to show patients the surgical process and the desired outcome.

Pre-Prosthetic Surgery

Pre-prosthetic surgery refers to minor oral surgeries that may be required to enhance the fit of partial or full dentures. These procedures include bone smoothing, removal of excess bone, bone ridge reduction, removal of excess gum tissue, and/or exposure of impacted teeth.

Platelet-Rich Plasma

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is used to accelerate healing in bone grafting, dental implants, repair of bone defects, and/or repair of sinus fistulas. This procedure is done in our Grand Junction, CO, office only.

Please check with your insurance carrier if PRP is recommended by the doctor. Not all insurances cover this procedure.

Oral Pathology

If you notice an alteration in the appearance of the tissues inside of your mouth, lips, cheeks, or gum tissue, we can evaluate for a pathological process. Red or white patches, sores that don’t heal, lumps or thickening of skin inside the mouth, or a chronic sore throat can all indicate an infection or oral cancer. Please call for an evaluation.

3D Imaging

We use the Vatech 3D System for streamlined, accurate diagnosis and treatment of maxillofacial conditions. With less radiation exposure than typical x-rays, this cone-beam CT technology provides clear digital images.

Anesthesia

Our staff is trained in the use of anesthesia. In addition to local anesthesia, we offer office-based general anesthesia with a local anesthetic. This includes IV medication for comfort and calming along with local anesthesia to numb the area. Extensive surgeries, such as jaw reconstruction, may require general anesthesia at a hospital or surgical center with an anesthesiologist.
